News
November 2011.
Our pancake breakfast event went off with out a major hitch due to the expert palnningby the adults and scouts in charge. We're gettin pretty good at serving a quiality product for a resonable price!
October 2011
A very successful trip to the always beautiful Magnolia Glenn in Kiln, Mississippi. Originally planned to host Webelos Cubs, it's focus was shifted to our own scouts' outdoor skills. (Big loser here were the Webelos who have missed both trips for them.) Our scouts ALL achieved very well with about eight attaining their next rank. The weather was great and the menu was imaginatively different, complete with a Troop 45 Mystery Cobbler with Sliced Apple Topping. Poppy's kitchen sparked with acitivity as new scouts learned how to handle and prepare meals.
Then the added level......Thanks to a group of "older" scouts who showed up to help us honor our benefactor, Mr Jay Hotard, with an honoray Scoutmaster Award. These thirty year old plus guys "came back" to their beginnings and relived more than a few camp stories. Thanks to Jonathan, Trey and Mr Yo for packing in and preparing a lunch feast for the nearly 30 of us gathered. Mr. Hotard expressed his heart felt thanks to all. HIs biggest problem now is where to hang his plaque!
September 2011
We did very well in the District Camporee recently, finishing 6 out of 17 patrols participating. Way to go, Scouts! Very proud of your work! We finished off September battering fish for the SAM Fish Fry. Our guys served proudly once again.
August 2011
Back to school and the Scouting calendar will fill up quickly, too. We had a very impressive
Court of Honor a few weeks ago. Everybody looked real sharp. Thanks to Ian's family for
providing such a great meal.
May 2011
Congrats to Ian upon finishing his requirments and becoming an Eagle Scout
April 2011
Congrats to our Senior Patrol Leader, Kevin, on his completion of the Order of the Arrow ordeal and his induction into the Brotherhood of Honored Campers. It was a picture perfect weekend and the camp never looked better.
February 2011
This has been a very productive month for the scouts and the troop. First, we went to the Pelican District Merit Badge Camp. The scouts earned a record number of merit badges (again). Scouters Matt Mims, Adam Graff, and Chuck Griffin staffed the kitchen to feed the 230+ people in camp. Jonathan (Fingers) treated us to another one of his amazingly creative campfires. ASM Matt Gattuso staffed Home Repairs and brought a friend to do Electricity. And of course there was the now famous (thanks Jonathan) Mr Jim's Merit Badge Midway to "round" out the rest!
Thanks to Mr Mike, and Mr Joe for suppling some extra adult leadership in camp.
Second...Our troop has nearly doubled in size with the addition of 12 new Scouts thanks to the Cross Over ceremony at Pack 30. The Indian team from OA Chilantakoba Lodge 397 did a moving ceremony, and the Scoutmaster and Troop members welcomed and garbbed each new scout as he crossed the bridge into boy scouting. Welcome to our brotherhood. Scoutmaster Conrad StPierre should be triple proud. Not only is he our Scoutmaster, but he was also a Den Leader to this webelos den, and third, his son Zack is now a Boy Scout. Well done, everyone.
THIS MONTH'S QUIZ:
How many things can you find wrong in his picture? E-mail them and I will list
(And these two could be our next Eagles?)

November 2010
Under the heading of "We Grow Our Own Leaders", please welcome back to the service of Troop 45, Mr. Adam Graff. Adam, or Poppy, as his grandkids call him, is an Eagle Scout (#7 1957) and has come back to help the troop three different times since the 50's. Good to have him with us. His knowledge of the troop and scouting is very much appreciated!
At the recent Order of the Arrow Ordeal, Scouts Taylor and Ian were successful in their quest to pass the Ordeal. The weather was in the 30's, so safe to say there were no mosiqutos (good news). Congrats to our newest OA members.
October 2010
Finished September with a successful "hike in" trip to SSR. Even the rain Saturday night didn't stop the trip. Then we battered fish for the Fair Fish Fry. Next, we hosted 11 Webelos, Arrow of Light patrol members and dads, to a weekend at Mr. Hotard's. We had 38 people in camp. A big crowd for us. Cherry and peach cobbler topped off the meat loaf and mashed potatos dutch oven dinner. And the weather was perfect. Looking forward to 11 new boy scouts come February!
September 2010
The new school year has started and Troop 45 is already very active. In late August, we camped and canoed (see new pictures). We now own our own supply of life jackets, so there will be more canoeing in our future!
Our next trip will be a backpack hike in and camp at SSR. More on that after the trip.
We have made some changes in leadership in the troop. These plans have been in the works for over a year, and now is a good time to effect them. We have a new Senior Patrol Leader. Keven will take over as SPL, a job he has been exposed to for a few camping trips. Jonathan will serve as a Troop Guide. He will continue to offer leadership and help the troop grow.
After six years as Scoutmaster, Mr. Jim, will hand over the patch to Mr Conrad St.Pierre. Mr Conrad has been a part of the troop for the last few years, and has been attending "Scoutmaster Training" for quite some time!
For those who may not realize, Mr. Conrad is an Eagle Scout, and a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow. Troop 45 is lucky to have him, and he has expressed his desire to continue our traditions faithfully. Please continue to supoort our program and assist whenever asked. Mr Jim Pratt will take over as Troop Committee Chairman, so he will not be leaving the program at all, but rather will continue to help shape and help the troop more forward with the same energy as usual.
The other uniformed leadership wil continue to be Mr. Chuck Griffin, Mr Vincent Fouchi, Mr. Matt Mims, Mr. Matt Gattuso, Mr. James (Jimmy) Pratt, and Mr Brandon Broulliette.
There has been a new requirement put upon the adult leadership of the troop. All leaders and adults who come in contact with scouts who meet at Catholic schools have been mandated to undergo a training and screening program administered by the Archdiocese. (This program also affects other youth programs on campus, but I will only focus on Boy Scouting.) We have strived to make sure all our leadership has done this, and will be in 100% compliance within the next 30 days. As a side note, BSA also has a training and screening, so in effect ALL our leaders are double trained and screened. In some respects the BSA program is more extreme than that of the Archdiocese. Ever notice that fathers are not allowed to share tents with sons? Or that adults even camp far away for the scouts? These are because of our BSA policy. It is very different from Cub Scouting, and at times parents have questioned it, but these are some of the rules, and we will apply them.
There is alot in this month's report. If you have any questions or comments, please contact your leader of choice, and we will answer your observations and questions.
July 2010
So far this summer, Troop 45 has been very busy. A week at Camp Hood. Our SPL, Jonathan travelled to the NAtional Jamboree and Liam went to the BSA Seabase in Florida. Check out Jamboree pictures and pictures of Camp Hood.
May 2010
Well, our scout year is just about over. Since my last writing, we have gained four new scouts, served crawfish for SAMA, taken a trip to Five Lakes, and finished with a Pizza Dinner. Next up is summer camp in Hazelhurst, Mississippi. The troop is very healthy and wise. It seems everyone is in step with each other. Feels good to see the troop to set up camp quickly and have three snack things going at the same time!
We're just about twenty scouts strong now, which means the work load per scout is less; the fun load per scout more. Now for some time out for our leaders. Enjoy your summer.
April 2010
The troop attended Merit Badge Camp and did quite well. As usual, with the plan they had in place, our scouts came home with many new merit badges. Mr. Conrad headed up the Troop's leadership while Mr Jim tended to his District job this weekend. Scout and SPL Jonathan did an outstanding job of hosting the Saturday night campfire for well over 100 in the council ring! Then he outdid himself by creating a camp legend...the V-Bar Monster. If you look through the photos of the trip, I'm sure you'll spot the "monster" The weather was perfect , the food and company good, and everyone came home succeessful.
We were represented at the OA Conclave by scouts Jonathan and Liam. Mr JIm went too, and provided the comedy by tripping and falling on Friday night!
I always like to gently rib my old friend Bill von Aleman about me being an older Vigil in the OA than he. I was inducted as a boy, two years before he was inducted as an adult. Well, those days are over. Bill left camp on Sunday and passed away Monday morning. We all know he was where he was happiest..at Camp with the OA. The OA has coined a phrase, "the Power of One". I can think of no one better than Bill at defining that phrase. God speed, friend...until we meet again.
January-March 2010
In the first few months of the year, we managed to get in a camping trip, two fish fries, two banquest and a day trip to SSR....and the Saints won the Super Bowl!
Congrads to our Eagles of 2009 who were recognized at the District Banquet in February and at the Council Banquet in March. Also, our Scoutmaster was awarded the Silver Beaver at the March banquet. We now have four Silver Beavers in the history of the troop.
December 2009
AS the year comes to an end, we have been enlightened as to the NEW name of our expanded district. We are now pround members of "Pelican District". The district streches from the 17th St Canal into St Charles Parish and from the river to the lake.
This will make us the largest, and most populated, district in our Council.
I have been told that some of the videos placed here are not viewable by some. So I have changed the extension from "avi" to wmv. Hope this will help everybody enjoy all parts of our site.
Merry Christmas to all and a very Happy New Year, too.
Congradulations to Patrick Steigman of Troop 227 upon being presented his Eagle. Pat is the son of John and Ann(Roser) Steigman. John was a T45 scout, the father of a second Eagle, Scott, and brother in law to Dave Roser of T45. Also pictured to the left is Matt and Byran Roser. Bryan is SM of T230, a T45 scout, and brother of Dave Roser. Matt is Bryan's son and Dave's nephew. Wow! That was a mouthful of explanation to show how Troop 45 spreads it's impact on scouting in Metairie!
November 2009
A very busy month.
First was the Order of the Arrow Ordeal, which Liam attended and was successfully inducted. Jonathan continues to be the Chitamacha Chapter Chief and our ASM Matt Mims is the Chapter Advisor. Mr. Conrad and myself were also present.
Next up...the Pancake Breakfast. This year was another success story written by our scouts and patrons. With only a three week window prior to the event, the scouts presold tickets to everyone they encountered. And it showed on Sunday, when a steady, hungry line of patrons showed up to eat. Thanks to our loyal patrons, who come every year, whether they have a scout in the program or not. Thanks to our dads, who show up unsolicted and unannounced to help where they are needed. Thanks to our generous vendors who make the right deals for us. And thanks to the Scouts, who prove to the public, how well mannered, well groomed, and well disciplined they can be, any time they are called upon to do so. Mr. Bill Rice again chaired our side of the event. Eagle Scout Erice Rice (now an adult) oversaw the omelet station. Mr. Conrad and Mr Chuck plated and cooked. Eagle Scout Mr Mat Mims baked in the kitchen, and Mr Vincent Fouchi watched over the coffee. To everyone, a BIG THANKS. And because of the joint effort, we all got home in time to watch the Saints go 9 and 0.....Go Troop 45, and Go Saints!
Next up...Camping at Mr Hotards...
September 2009.
Okatuma Creek, Mississippi
The much talked about canoe trip finally happened, without a hitch. The plan was in place and the plan worked well. We got there in the dark of night, put up camp, and waited for rain that never came. Saturday saw clear skies and a hardy breakfast then in to the river they went. Five hours and 14 miles later, they were back in camp, having conquered the Okatuma! A big thanks to the adults who were there. More eyes on the water, the better. Mr's. Ball & Lorio, along with ASM Conrad St. Pierre and James Pratt, joined with our newest committee member Mr Vincent Fouchi to watch over the troop. (And we watched over them too....you know who you are....yea the adults who went into the drink!) Thanks, Mr Fouchi and Jimmy for the photos. They're great, especially the one below:
Sometimes one picture can really say alot:
'Round about the council fire's light, we have met in comradeship tonight.
Underneath the whispering trees. Guard our golden memories.
And so before we close our eyes to sleep, let us pledge each other that we'll keep
Scouting memories strong and deep...Till we Meet Again.
AUGUST 2009
Our first trip of the new school year is now behind us. Five Lakes was a dress rehearsal for the canoe trip we have been discussing for months. All the scouts on this trip passed our testing, and next month, we do it. As you can see, we take water safety very seriously. Our leadership has to be 100% sure everyone on the trip knows how to handle every event. Notice the photos with water filled canoes. The scouts know how to empty the boat, reenter it, and get underway again. They are wearing proper footwear and life jackets. All of these tiny details are very important to thier safe, enjoyable, and successful trip. Please support your scout and our program by making sure thay have the proper equipment and are on time and stay with us for entire events and instructions. We are committed to your scout's safety and will not cut corners.
On camping trips, we strive to serve food that is heathly, hardy , easy to prepare, and fun to eat. Some of our guys are abit shy of what others would consider "ordinary" foods. Please try to help your scout learn to like things like....hot dogs, pancakes, milk, hamburger meat, tacos, bananas, and watermelon. We can't prepare too many different menus and we try to have alternatives for certain things, but we have to be meant halfway. On the good side they all really like cookies, Five Lakes Steak, pop tarts, peanut butter, and kool aid! All is not lost! We haven't had spaghetti or red be ans and rice recently, but we will no doubt have them in the near future.
Lastly, thank you Lonnie Moore, for visiting us and showing the present day scouts what a fine gentleman they will one day become. Lonnie was a kid scout in the 50's, Camp Salmen staffer in the 60's & 70's, and educator thoughout his life, and is now back on our troop committee! A very welcome addition....someone older than the Scoutmaster! The scouts enjoyed the time you spent with them this weekend, Lonnie, as did the leaders.
OK.....It's almost time to get going again for another fantastic year in Troop 45.
This will be a very special year because the Boy Scouts of America will officially turn 100 years old in February. Towards that end, we will do a few things a bit different, just so you'll have them for your memories. So you can say....I remember when I was a kid and the BSA turned 100. That might not sound like such a big deal now, but in a few years, it will be.
We'll start meeting again on our Wednesday nights. Let's pledge that we'll try to be on time, so we can conduct a proper meeting and take care of the business and have fun, too! We're extending the meetings by 30 minutes. Did you notice? The troop is too big to give individual atention to everyone in only one hour.
If you hava friend who might want to join the troop, now would be a good time to invite him to a meeting.
See you Wednesday....in uniform!
July 2009
Sadly I have to report Mr Jim Campbell passed away last Tuesday after a long illness. Mr Campbell was the principal at SAM for twenty years and was a friend of Troop 45, always supportring our work and efforts.
There will be a Memorial for him at St Angela Church on Tuesday, July 27 at 7:00pm. Visitation at six and a small reception after. All are welcome. If you know someone from his "era" please help me get the word out. Check the paper, Sunday. I'll see you all, Tuesday to say goodbye to our friend.
June 2009......
The troop left for Salmen Scout Reservation ready to take on everything it could throw at them, and then came home winners! It was HOT. But we all knew that. So did the camp staff. They kept the scouts in the water as often as possible. And kept 'em drinking water, too. We did have a recurring problem with the scouts wearing dirty, damp clothes, and not showering with soap. Hence....heat rash. We know better now and they have learned a valuable lesson about washing t shirts and spreading them out to dry.
A really big thank you to ASM Mr. Conrad St.Pierre for being with the troop the entire week. He gave up a weeks' vacation for the boys, and he really deserves our heartfelt thanks! Thanks also to Mr Steve Franatovich, ASM Jimmy Pratt, ASM Chuck Griffin, and Mr. Mark Chanove for spending some nights in camp with the troop. Mr. Chanove also scored major points by showing up with two cold watermelons, too!
Our scouts are very much more confidant in themselves, in the scout program, and of thier comradship with each other, now. They really looked good as a group when I saw then Thursday night for dinner. They were all very proud of thier achievements and of being in Troop 45!
The newest scout came home with two Eagle required merit badges, and the older ones came home with at least four! Way to go, guys! We'll give out all the patches and awards in August.
For now, we'll take a vacation from Scouting and enjoy the rest of the short summer with our families. Watch the calendar, and check for new pictures.
See you in August.....Good night, Scouts.
May 30, 2009.....Five Eagles and a 60th Anniversary celebration

Thanks to the efforts of alot of parents and scouts, we had a wonderful gathering to honor our FIVE new Eagles. Good wishes abounded from so many directions, it was hard to keep up with all the proclamations being read! Thanks to Mr. Dudley Passman for producing a vat of the most wonderful jambalaya ever, complete with a mixed tossed salad and bread. Then there was the cake honoring the Eagles of the day. Soft drinks and coffee rounded out the refreshments, while the table decorations, ballons and staging (by Mr. Chuck Griffini), added to the overall enjoyment of the event. Over in another corner were the "old" guys. Yeah, my age and older ( and some younger ) showed up to see how the old troop was holding up. I think everyone agreed that the present members of Troop 45 are doing a very good job of holding on to our traditions and fables. (Some scouts got first hand confirmation of some of Mr Pratt's taller tales, too!......Amadillo snack boy was in the house! Sorry Andrew, I had to tell, it's such a good story.)
Wish we could do this every year! But wait, we can...we will . Just around the corner and way before another ten years passes is the celebration we will stage for EAGLE ONE HUNDRED.
Watch this site closely. He's in the troop right now, but we don't really know who it is.....yet.
May 25...Happy Birthday ASM Jimmy Pratt
April 2009
Congradulations to our new Eagles
94- Jordan 95- Jonathan
96- Brian 97- Wil
March 2009
Congradulations to Jordan for passing his Board of Review for Eagle.
Not only did Jordan pass his Eagle Board of Review but, before the month was out THREE other Life scouts finished their Eagle projects and are now awaiting their boards of review.
In March, 2009, the troop met four times for meeting, twice for fish fries, did three eagle projects, and went on a weekend camping trip earning 28 merit badges. That's 12 meetings with the scouts in less than 30 days.
I am (editorial) very thankful to the adult leadership of Troop 45, for without them none of the above could have happened. If we met 12 times with scouts, this means we met and spent more days and hours (day and night) planning, discussing and implementing our program. This is not a full time job, but sometimes it feels like it. When boys DON'T show up, they cause the rest of the troop to suffer, because they are always counted in the potential number for help and attendance.
(Example...when a six person patrol goes camping with only two members, it can not help but to be over worked. Meanwhile the boys who didn't show up are there for pizza night and
other day activites of thier choosing.) Being a member is to be committed to the program for at least 50% of everything! Half the fish fires, half the meetings, and half the trips. Unlike sports programs, we do not ask for 100% because we know there is more in our scouts' lives, but 50% is not too much, considering the adult leadership is giving 150%.
As always, if you have questions about the troop or things in the program that affect your scouts, ask me or another member of the adult leadership.
February 2009
Congradulations to our Senior Patrol Leader, Jonathan who was recently elected to serve the Order of the Arrow as our Chitimacha Chapter Chief. Aso, our ASM Matthew Mims has been tapped to be the OA Chitimacha Chapter Advisor. And finally, SM Jim Pratt was awarded the District Award of Merit.
December 2008
(Eagle 87) Drew Cruppi introduces his new wife Elizabeth to the crowd in front of
St Louis Cathederal on Saturday, December 13. Best Wishes to both
November 2008
A very busy month for Troop 45. Early in the month we camped at Camp Wilkes in Bilox, Mississippi.
A very nice camp which we plan to use again, soon.
Then, our annual Pancake Breakfast, which we shared with the Cubs of Pack 30. This year was our most successful in quite some time. And this was due to our scouts, who sold tickets door to door and to our parents, who supported thier efforts, and lastly to our customers, who came in and had breakfast with us. Thanks to all who donated, purchased, and ate !!! Thanks to Mr Bill Rice for chairing the event for us. He does it so well! And to Eric Rice (Eagle #90) who manned the omelet station cooking tastey omelets and teaching other scouts how!
November 5 2008
Congradulations to scout Kevin who got a new baby sister this week.
October 3 2008
Our weekend trip to Mr. Hotard's "Magnolia Glen was a great success. Most all of our newer
scouts were there and learned a lot of camp craft from our adult leaders and our Junior Leaders. The refurbed trailer made it's first trip and worked the way it was suppose to work.
Our new Quartermaster took charge, and kept everything shipshape! Food was prepared well and everyone liked the menu. The afternoon river walk and the lashing lesson was also
a big success. If you missed this trip, you missed a good one!
Thanks to ALL the parents of our scouts who attened the "Parents' Meeting" the other night. We had 100% attendance. Hopefully your time was well spent and you picked up an item or two from the talk. If you EVER have a question, please don't hesitate to ask. Lastly, thanks for your support for our program. The boys really need that.
SEPTEMBER 2, 2008
Gustav is gone and we'll have to change our plans because shool's closed. We will move everything back one week. Check the calendar, it's correct at this moment. Watch this space and let's all stay safe and keep in contact with each other.
I am in Picayune, Ms. Mr Chuck is in Baton Rouge. MattMims is in LasVegas!
Jimmy is in Destin, and sadly reports his dog Abby died as a result of injuries, so she is a casualty of Gustav.
As others check in I'll post their locations. Email me.
=Mr Jim=
August 2008
We need your help.
Over the past eight weeks a very dedicated group of gentlemen have been busy
restoring our camping tralier to a safe operating unit.
Long story short....they're pooped!! We still need some detail work done.
Painting, screwing on knobs and locks. Stuff that doesn't sound like much, but it all adds up.
If you can lend a hand, please get in touch with Conrad St. Pierre or Jim or Chuck, so we can sign you up to the next work party. Thanks
July 2008
Our Camping trailer is being refurbished this summer. Check ou the photos n "Recent Photos".
Do you have an "in" with a paint store, or lumber yard, or electronics (lighting)? Or do you just want to make a donation to the fix it fund? If so, we could stand calling in a favor or two. One look at the photos, and you'll get the idea!!
June 2008
Congradulations are in order to our newest Eagle who just passed his Board of Review (6/18).
Congradulatoins to Brandon seen with the board members and his two Scoutmasters, Mr Jim and Mr. Bill
May 2008
As the school year ends, the troop grows as we receive new scouts from Pack 30. The Blue and Gold was held on May 16th and seven Webelos Scouts becam Boy Scouts with four leaving immediately to join the troop on a weekend trip to Five Lakes (see photos) Below are our seven new scouts. Welcome to Troop 45.
April 2008
Lots of things happening this month. At the recent OA Spring Ordeal, our member Jonathan acheived his Brotherhood status. Congradulations. Eagles from the troop attended the second "Gathering of Eagles" at the New Orleans Museum to see beautiful Norman Rockwell art and to meet our Cheif Scout Executive, too.
If that weren't enough...our ASM and Vigil member of OA Chalantakoba 397, Matt Mims, was in charge of the the kitchen and all food services for the Ordeal and the Conclave held the weekend of 4/18. (He fed over 500 at the Conclave!).
At the same time, the troop took a day trip down by the riverside to tour Carnival Cruise Lines' "Fantasy". The group got to see all the diiferent rooms, the discos, the main showroom, the video arcade, casino and all the other shops. Then they got to EAT, and in true form, they did. The word locus comes to mind watching them accept Carnival's hospitality in the buffet !!
March 2008
Our troop continues to grow and mature. And with these things comes change. We have a new Senior Patrol Leader. From now on, Jonathan will lead Troop 45 in a positive direction. He has served us well as ASPL, so now he gets his chance to show us the real deal. Our past SPL, Jordon, will take on a new duty. He will become a Troop Guide, and as such will work very closely with the new incoming Webelos Scouts as they cross from Cubs into Boy Scouting and Troop 45! I'm sure Jordon will do a very good job in this position, one we have not filled in a while. Good luck to both of these Scouts!
We are on course for a number of big happenings. First, soon we will welcome new scouts into the troop from the Cub pack. This is always an exciting time for the boys, both old and new. Second, we are popping at the seams with Life to Eagles. Within the next year we could have FIVE new Eagles. This is very good news for the troop because quite a few of these scouts are nowhere near 18, and will remain in the troop contributing in making the troop stonger. What a befitting manner to enter the "One Hundred Years of Scouting", going on now through 2010.
Stay tuned for more news.
February 2008
We attended Merit Badge Camp at SSR. Our seven scouts earned 21 merit badges, with alot of "required for Eagle" included. We also got our first look at the brand new swimmig pool which will be there waiting for us this summer. We did some really good skits at the campfire. Maybe they'll be replayed at a meeting. Thanks once again to Matt Gattuso, Matt Mims, and Jimmy Pratt for help out so much as they all work very hard to help our guys move forward in Scouting. Thanks also to Mr. John Rohr, who participated as a Music merit badge counsulor.
December 2007
Our Court of Honor came off without a hitch and now we officially have one more Eagle in the troop.
It's a shame not all families could be with us, but the Saints are to blame...they changed their game time, then they LOST. You missing families should have been with US. We were in a room full of winners, and Mr Dudley and family made sure we were well fed, too!
We saw three new Life scouts, added to the two we already have which means we could have FIVE Eagles by next Christmas. We gave troop neckerchiefs to new Tenderfoot(s), which means we have enough new scouts to see us into the future. Also in attendance were Eagles from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 90's, and 00's. It was good to see all our "old' Friends come back and also know a few of them will be helping out on a full time basis real soon.
Not to slight our newest Eagle. Parker struck a very good profile and will now benifit the troop in many ways, since he won't be 18 anytime soon. He can render his advice and consule to many scouts in the troop. Shake his hand personally when you see him.
November 2007
Thanks to efforts of alot of different people, we had another successful Pancake Breakfast. Chaired, once again by Mr. Bill Rice, our adult group made up of Bill RIce, Pat LeBlanc, Bobby Brouillete, Paul Jackson, Oscar Sorbrino, Chuck Griffin, Matt Gattuso, and Eric Rice helped our scouts serve what seemed to be an endless line of hungry patrons. Our scouts made fruit cups, flipped pancakes, made omellettes, cooked bacon and sausage, mixed batter, and served plate after plate of breakfasts.
Thanks to Scouts Brandon B, Jonathan, Liam, Hamb, Brandon J, Jordan, Wonka, Ian, Gio, Oliver, and John. Thanks for gettin' up early to do this service fundraiser for the troop. We had fun doing it, too.
And last but not least, a big thank you to Ms Patty McMann, who has put this entire event together as a co-shared fundraiser between Pack 30 and Troop 45.
Late September 2007
Congradulations to Parker, who has finished his work for Eagle, and successfuly completed his Board of Review.
And if that weren't enough scout action for one week, the troop took a weekend trip to Five Lakes. The swimming was great, the weather cooperated and the food was plentiful....all prepared and cooked by the patrols! Our "new guys" got thier first trip as Boy Scouts and they all did well. From hiking in, well after dark, to setting up camp, getting a camp fire going, lashing a flag pole and raising our Stars and Stripes and much more. Thanks to the ASM's Matt Gattuso, Jimmy Pratt, and Matt Mims, as well as Mr Chuck (as always)! Check out the pictures.
September 2007
The year is off and running. We're back in gear and the scouts are advancing in rank
very strongly. It's safe to say almost everyone has move up a rank or will advance by
one rank by the end of October. Our "new boys" aren't new anymore. They're boy scouts
just like everyone else in the troop!
Brandon ran a very successful Eagle project. His task was to collect personal products
(soaps, shampoos etc) and cleaning supplies for needy Katrina victums in Port Sulphur.
The count is not official, but the estimate is 1500 items !!! Thank you Brandon, as well as
the crew of scouts and adults who came out and helped.
May 20 2007
Well it's official. We've grown by six, and will be stronger still n the Fall.
Our new scouts will be at thier first troop meeting this week and from the looks of it, they will fit in just fine!
We completed our weekend to Five Lakes, and it was perfect. The weather was really great...cool in the night and hot in the day. Some scouts even slept out on hammacks instead of in tents. ASM's Jimmy and Matt and Matt are really having fun showing the guys tricks they learned as T45 scouts (only a few years ago). The scouts swam till they couldn't go any more. Menu highlights were Five Lakes Steak on Friday night and Troop 45 Hunters' Stew on Saturday, complete with the coldest (and seedless) watermelon we could find. And if that weren't enough there was fishing, too. We are really lucky to be scouts!

In a few weeks Troop 45 will accept the newest crop of Webelos Cub Scouts into the brotherhood of Boy Scouting. As I was looking over the list of names the thought struck me that somewhere in this list of current
members is our ONE HUNDREDTH Eagle Scout. Who will he be? Ofcourse it's only a number, as every Eagle is as important as the last and next, but it does strike a very nice mark in our history and will no doubt be enough of a cause for an extra special party. Keep watching. That Eagle could be someone you know!

Troop 45 attended Merit Badge camp at Camp Salmen in early March. Our eight scouts earned a total of 34 merit badges. Excellent work, guys. The planning and advance work paid off. Congrads to Michael T who earned SIX merit badges.

Dear Jim,
My name is Randy Collette. I am not sure if you will remember me but I was a member of both Pack 45 and Troop 45 with you a long time ago. Your sister Nancy might also remember me as I went to school with her.
I was in the troop back in the mid and late 60's and made Eagle in November 1963 at the age of 12 1/2. I was in the troop with Wayne Grass, Steve Kent, James Bush, William Holden, James Remont, Wayne Nicosia, Mike McNeese, and a bunch of others. It was a great time in scouting back then and I still have some great memories from those times.
When I was in Cub Scouts I believe our den met at your house and your mother was the den mother.
I was thrilled to see the troop was still in existence and still going strong.
Well, I hope to hear back from you and maybe if I get back over to the area I can stop in at a troop meeting.
I now live in Tallahassee Florida and am retired from the Air Force and from the State of Florida. I am an attorney and serve as Senior Legal Counsel for a large medical malpractice insurance company.
Randy Collette
.....Thanks, Randy, for the kind words and thoughts about the troop. Keep up with us as often as possible. Maybe we'll hear from some of the others guys you mentioned.....Jim
We spent a weekend at Mr. Hotard's Magnolia Glen and it was perfect! The air was warn, cool and cold depending on the time of day. The land was dry so we had all the fire wood we could use. The menu worked well and no food was wasted or burned! Our Webelos guests all seemed to have a good time and we look forward to welcoming them to the troop in a few months. ...Mr Jim
Our pancake breakfast (11/5) was a great success due to the efforts of the entire troop and loyal parental help! See the pictures.. Thanks to all, especially Mr's Brouillette, Cranfield, Tortorich, Neitzer, and last but not least, Mr. Chuck and I would like to thank Mr. Bill Rice for chairing this event and to Eric Rice for coming in to man (and teach) the Omelette Station !! ...Mr. Jim
We had a very nice trip to Camp Salmen in October. Chilly Friday. Warm Saturday. Rain overnight, then partly sunny on Sunday. The troop hiked around the lake and had a lunch of MRE's on the far side. Saturday's evening meal was hunter's stew. I didn't hear any complaints and there was no food left over! Nachos rounded out both evenings. Thanks to Matt Gattuso and Matt Mims for being there for the boys. It makes life for Mr. Chuck and I alot easier, and the scouts enjoy the young leadership. Everyone came home more confident and able to withstand wet weekends. Thanks to Wil for the photos of the hike. Two cameras are better than one! ...Mr. Jim
There's a new sheriff in town and his name is Jordan....our new SPL.
Meanwhile, we also have a new Junior Assistant Scoutmaster named Parker. We haven't had a JASM in quite a while, so this is a very good thing. To round out things, Jonathan becomes the new ASPL and Brandon got the nod to be our Quartermaster. Our leadership corps also consists of Stephan as Patrol Leader and Wonka ( in a place where one can't use last names, nicknames are GREAT) is the APL. Our Chaplins' Aide continues to be Matthew, who is presently defending the BroMart football tream against all comers! We miss Matthew and will see him in November. ...Mr. Jim
We had a really good trip to Five Lakes in September. It rained on us Friday while we set up and again on Sunday morning as we slept, but in between we had fun. The troop planned a good menu and carried through with all cooking and cleaning. The scouts were in the water from 8:30am till 5:30pm with a short time out for lunch. And we left the camp cleaner than when we arrived (if that's possible since it ewas SO clean. I'm sure we'll be going back to Five Lakes as soon as we can!
After the Board of Review At the Court of Honor
Our Newest Eagle!!
Mark has advanced on two levels. On the first, he has attained Eagle.
On the second, he has reached his 18th birthday.
So, we lose a scout, but gain an Eagle leader.
We had a very nice Court of Honor.
Thanks to Mr. Chuck for arranging the program, the stage,
and the awards.
And thanks to the Buchert family for the great dinner!!
We are always looking for a few good members and the present
members will be looking to close friends and extending invitations
to a few to join us.
We're always open to welcoming back young men who were once
members in their youth. Present members would learn a lot from your
stories and experiences in scouting. ...Mr. Jim
